27 February

Prior to CCC’s 2006 AGM, Lord Best, CCC’s President, gave a wide-ranging address, which included observations about the value of CCC and on various topical aspects of care provision and funding. The event took place at Mary Sumner House in Westminster (24 Tufton Street, London SW1P 3RB) and the AGM was followed by an informal buffet for members.

2006

5 December

The ILC-UK and the Actuarial Profession held a joint seminar on the subject of Age and Work in Health and Care: lessons from a European project on Tuesday, 5 December at the Institute of Actuaries. The keynote speaker was Dr Phil Taylor, Professor of Ageing & Public Policy in the Faculty of Business and Enterprise at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne. 28 November

The Royal Institute of Public Health (RIPH), together with the ILC-UK and the European Nutrition for Health Alliance, held an event on preventing malnutrition on 28 November in London. The event aims to bring together practitioners, policymakers and academics to discuss the issues, experiences, and best practice initiatives in order to further the work and the policies in place. 21 September

CCC held a conference on Thursday, 21 September, on the subject of 'Brain Failure': Developing Care Capacity. Further details about this event are available on the conference webpage here.

11 September

To ensure that CCC's response to the Department of Health's consultation on NHS continuing care accurately reflected the views of its broad membership, CCC held an event on Monday, 11 September which offered members the opportunity to debate how CCC should respond to the consultation.

30 June

CCC launched the results of its census of care home residents on Friday, 30 June in central London. Further information and the full conference programme are available here.

27 February

On Monday, 27 February, the International Longevity Centre UK (ILC-UK) held a conference (Building our Futures) to mark the launch of the organisation's new planning 'Navigator' for local and sub-regional planners tasked with creating housing and community strategies for tomorrow's older people.

The Navigator is a 20 page booklet which seeks to identify sources of local demographic data and facilitate conclusions as to older persons housing needs based on future population projections. It draws upon several datasets to create demand models, including an analysis of the new Age Concern Lifeforce Survey of the over 50s in the UK.

26 January

CCC's 2006 programme of events got off to an early start with a joint CCC/SPARC Workshop, The Application of Research and Development in Long Term Care, held at the Guildhall, London, on Thursday, 26 January 2006. The PowerPoint presentations made at the event are available on the SPARC website.

2005

15 December

On Thursday, 15 December, CCC held its Annual General Meeting in central London. The formal proceedings of the AGM were preceded by a talk from David Walden from the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) and a buffet lunch. The event started at 12pm and took place at Mary Sumner House in Westminster (24 Tufton Street, London SW1P 3RB).

29 November

On Tuesday, 29 November, CCC held a conference on the topic of frail older people: policy, practice and choice.

23 September

On Friday, 23 September, CCC held a special 'brainstorming' event in order to identify future challenges. Speakers at the event were: Lord Best (CCC President / Joseph Rowntree Foundation), William Laing (Laing & Buisson), Professor Malcolm Johnson (International Institute on Health & Ageing) and Dr Clive Bowman (CCC Chairman / BUPA Care Services).

14 July

On Thursday, 14 July, CCC held a round-table lunchtime event to highlight significant policy developments from around the world, with lessons that can be learned in the UK. The speakers at the event were:

On 15 June, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF), in conjunction with CCC, held a meeting in the House of Lords on the subject of Paying for Long-term Care.
