CCC has responded to the Department of Health's consultation seeking views on the Department's detailed proposals for a new integrated national framework for NHS continuing healthcare and NHS-funded nursing care in England.

In advance of the broadcast of the BBC's Panorama programme on 23 July, CCC has called for Government policies for providing and funding care of older people to be based on a realistic understanding of the needs of people receiving care. CCC recommends a regular care census to ensure that policy planning reflects evolving needs.

CCC is pleased to respond to the consultation on the Financial Service Authority's (FSA) plans for the future regulation of Home Reversion plans (HRs) and Home Purchase plans (HPPs).

Following the launch on 30 June of the results of the largest ever census of UK care homes, CCC has published the key findings of the census.

30 June

An expert conference has set out the findings of the largest ever census of UK care home residents - and what the results mean for future care policy development. The census involved over 32,000 people resident in 751 care homes across the UK and was undertaken by CCC members working together. CCC intends the findings to play a valuable role in informing the crucial issue of resources now and future planning for care, including planning of physical provision, staffing and supportive infrastructure.

CCC welcomes the Department of Health consultation on proposals for a national framework for NHS continuing healthcare and NHS-funded nursing care in England, and will be responding to the detailed proposals.

CCC is pleased to respond to the Department of Constitutional Affairs consultation on the Mental Capacity Act Code of Practice.

Following the publication of the Government's White Paper on Pensions, CCC has called on the Government and politicians of all parties to work towards a new long-term care settlement which could last. CCC wants the same level of commitment and political courage to be shown to long-term care as has been shown to pensions.

27 April

Responding to the publication of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation's (JRF) report Paying for Long-term Care: Moving Forward, CCC welcomes the report's call for urgent reform to deliver a long-term care funding system that is inequitable, incoherent and financially unsustainable. CCC urges the Government to include JRF proposals within the Comprehensive Spending Review, while working towards fundamental reform in the longer term.

Welcoming the conclusions of the Wanless Social Care Review, CCC has called on the Government to address the key issue of sustainable funding for care and fair access to high quality care.

CCC has responded to the Department of Health's consultation on Care Homes: Provision of information about prices/fees.

CCC urges further systematic research to ensure that there is a strengthened evidence base for informed decisions about the use of drugs in the later stages of Alzheimer's disease, following the publication by NICE of revised guidance on Alzheimer's drugs.

CCC warmly welcomes the publication of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation's paper, Facing the cost of long-term care: Towards a sustainable funding system. The options paper seeks fairer ways of funding the cost of caring for older people.

CCC is pleased to respond to the Department of Health's consultation on its vision of social care for adults in England outlined in the Green Paper, Independence, well-being and choice.

15 June

On 15 June, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) held a seminar on its Policy and Practice Development Programme on Paying for Long Term Care. A cross-section of CCC's members were invited to the seminar which took place in the House of Lords.

10 April

Responding to the publication of the Commons Health Committee's report, NHS Continuing Care, CCC wholeheartedly agrees with the Committee's recommendations and calls for urgent action to make equal access to care a reality. CCC calls for clear statements from political parties to outline their intentions to remedy the policy and practice inadequacies revealed in the report so that older people and their families may consider the parties' policies in the run up to the General Election on 5 May.

CCC welcomes the announcement that Sir Derek Wanless is to conduct an inquiry into the long-term demand for and supply of social care for older people in England.

16 December

CCC welcomes the publication of the Health Service Ombudsman's follow-up report on long-term care. CCC also welcomes the announcement by Dr Stephen Ladyman MP, Health Minister, on 9 December 2004, that he has commissioned a new national framework for the assessment for fully funded NHS continuing care.
